Putting this dumb shirt up for sale and you can buy it NOW. I officially reprinted it, alright? orders going out soon
Satirical Owl t-shirt. Here’s a schpiel about it:
In 1989 a protective law was passed on behalf of the endangered Spotted Owl, marking a precipitous drop in the sale of old growth timber in national forests. Prior to this, up to 90 million board feet of lumber was sold off each year. This was and is still a major win for conservationalists. It's scary to think about what things would look like if they had failed (see: "state forests"). Unfortunately, this law mainly impacted small family-run logging and milling companies. Large corporations like Weyerhauser, Simpson and Sierra Pacific own millions of acres of private forest land (see: "monocrop") and historically were not competing for bids on nat'l forest timber.
There's a great compilation of "Daily World" articles concerning the saga of the Spotted Owl in a book called "On the Harbor," I got most of my information for this from there.
